Plus, Washington Street progress and summer celebrations wrap up

apartment kitchen with islandExcitement is building for the opening of Foundry on 3rd. “Each day the Foundry moves closer to welcoming residents eager for a dynamic urban lifestyle,” said Dave Eckmann, president of Wausau Opportunity Zone (WOZ).

The mixed-use development is the first of its kind in downtown Wausau, with the potential to reshape urban living through 153 residential apartments, modern amenities and commercial spaces.

Danielle Barthels, assistant property manager for T. Wall Enterprises, said the mobile leasing office is now open outside the Foundry. Tours started August 1 and are held on Tuesdays and Fridays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. She said there has been a strong interest in tours and encourages people to schedule theirs soon. To reserve a spot, contact her at danielle@twallenterprises.com or 920-400-9572.

Barthels also said the Foundry is launching a corporate leasing program for local employers who want housing options for new employees and interns. “Our office will strive to meet their needs, whether they require studio apartments or two-bedroom units,” she said.

Washington Street transformation nears completion

“The reconstruction of Washington Street is making significant progress, with all roadway pavement now completed,” said Allen Wesolowski, city engineer. Contractors are finishing the surrounding landscaping, irrigation, sidewalks and lighting as the opening of the Foundry on 3rd approaches.

Redesigning Washington Street is crucial to modernizing downtown Wausau. Transforming one-way streets into two-way pedestrian-friendly roads will significantly enhance accessibility and connectivity. “It’s a major change that will yield long-term advantages such as greater visibility and direct access to shops and services. Businesses will benefit from increased visibility as drivers traveling in both directions will be more inclined to stop and shop along the way,” said Eckmann.

Celebrate the bold flavors of Wausau at upcoming Night Market and Food Truck Rally

The final Wausau Night Market of the season is Thursday, August 21. If the turnout of the previous night market is any indication, this one will be another lively evening filled with great food, music, local crafts and shopping.

One month later, food enthusiasts can look forward to the River West Food Truck Rally on September 20, featuring the area’s favorite food trucks and live music.

“These gatherings in downtown Wausau highlight the rich culinary culture of the region and bring residents together to celebrate summer,” said Eckmann.
